Abby Weingarten

Senior Communications Strategist

Abby is an award-winning writer, editor and communications strategist with more than 20 years of experience in journalism and content development.

She is responsible for collaborating with communications leaders in UF’s 16 colleges on storytelling and amplification, and she offers individualized coaching and mentoring to writers across campus. Abby also develops content for senior university leaders and faculty members, with a focus on writing op-eds for state and national media.

A New College of Florida graduate, Abby began her career as writer for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, where she created an oral history series that enabled her to interview more than 600 veterans. Prior to joining UF, Abby served as the senior editor and interim director for the Office of Communications & Marketing at New College of Florida – a role that allowed her to author speeches and op-eds for two college presidents and build creative branding concepts across admissions channels.

Abby is the recipient of a 2025 Superior Accomplishment Award – an honor that recognizes outstanding faculty and staff for going above and beyond to advance the mission of UF.
